Okay, so since I haven’t had any time to write or post photos on this blog these past few days (sorry!), I was thinking that it’d be good to bring you along with me with a journey back in time. Come on, let’s take a quick tour in Kyoto, through the most famous Geisha district, the traditional old Japanese-style district of Gion, through old wooden house lined back streets and alleyways as the geiko and maiko (apprentice geishas) make their way to and from their lessons.
While there remains some confusion about the nature of the geisha profession, legitimate geishas do not engage in paid sex with clients. Their purpose is to entertain their customer by flirting – dancing, reciting verse, playing musical instruments, or engaging in light conversation – and nothing more can be expected. Japanese men are amused by the illusion of that which is never to be. Sexism? Hum, what’s that?
Anyway if this tickle your fantasy there is many places in Kyoto where you can get dress up like a geisha and take some pictures…not exactly my cup of green tea!
