After the Polaroid Project experience in Russia, we were expecting similar difficulties in China…
Thankfully, the weather was ‘a bit’ less freezing and snowy, nothing really that the Polaroid camera couldn’t handle.

Getting a stamp in a local post office proved to be a nightmare…

Hopefully, but we found some old/fake Mao stamps at the flea market. Perfect to give an old retro charm to these Polaroid pics!

Sorry for the lack of posts recently… I have taken loads of photos but couldn’t find the time to sort them out. Will upload them soon…too tired/lazy right now.

In the meantime, I found these amazing photos while fishing for information on the internet and thought I had to share them with you.

They are from Chinese photographer Lu Guang, winner of the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his documentary project “Pollution in China.”

All I have to say is WOOOH.

Beautiful and moving, that is.

Now I don’t think you will ever look at those omnipresent ”Made in China” labels the same way again!

Well, have a look at how the Hani tribes are preparing a buffalo on market day in Duoyishu, Yunnan, China.

The village markets in Yunnan are sure to offer an eyeful and bellyful too!

But you are lucky, we turned down other tasty market snacks, including chicken feet and pig’s ears…

After a night in Kunming, we board an old overnight bus… Rustic comfort of course, but that’s good fun!

Waking up at 4am, we are thrown in an old salun motuoche (motor tricycle), heading off to the sunset at Yuanyang Xinjie, somewhere about 200km from the Vietnamese border.

Perched on the mountains, just above rolling fog and clouds, here they are: the fabulous Yuanyang rice terraces. Watching them at sunrise or sunset is an amazing experience, with such a different palette of colors. During winter, they are pools, reflecting morning mists, clouds and water buffalo chewing cud.

Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Mao… these are the classic tourist attractions of Beijing.
But you shouldn’t miss the 798 Art District if you happen to be in Beijing.

Located on the site of an abandoned electronic factory, the area is now full of shops, cafes, artists’ studios and galleries, showcasing contemporary and emerging Chinese art.

Bauhaus-style warehouses, with graffiti and old Maoist slogans all over the walls, rusty pipes and cranes… that’s an amazing place to explore!

+ We hate taxis in Beijing. They’re too fast and they never take you where you want to go. Besides, they cannot drive. No really. Fast and furious.

+ We hate the Internet censorship. No Facebook, no Twitter, no WP. A.N.G.E.R!

+ We hate/love the bitterly cold winter weather. We were freezing but climbing the Great Wall under the snow was such an amazing experience!

+ We love wandering through the small hutong alleys, stopping along the way for a bowl of steaming noddles.

+ We love this bustling city, its unique energy, its buildings sprouting like mushrooms after the rain… it’s a place to succeed, a place to ignore the staid structures set in stone by the communists…

+ Pfff, what are we sayin’… We’ll stop now because we don’t have much battery left on the computer and because lists of stuff people like are really boring and we’re sure you’ve got better things to do than reading blogs!

Since the one-child policy was introduced in 1979, kids often have a monopoly over two parents and four doting grandparents.

My advice to all parents, spoiling your child might end up pretty badly. Check out the last pic in the below gallery of a not-so-little-emperor who took a turn for the worse.
